In deze tijd veranderde hij zijn naam in Georges Moustaki. De nieuwe voornaam was een hommage aan Georges Brassens, die Moustaki stimuleerde. De jonge Griek begon chansons te schrijven voor onder anderen Barbara en Yves Montand. Voor de veel oudere \u00c9dith Piaf, met wie hij korte tijd een verhouding had, schreef hij in 1959 de tekst van de hit \u201cMilord.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LE <a><\/a>M\u00c9TEQUE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1968 brak hij zelf internationaal door als zanger met het door hemzelf geschreven &#8220;Le M\u00e9t\u00e8que&#8221;.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83c\udfbc\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcc\/1\/16\/1f3bc.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le M\u00e9t\u00e8que is een Franse scheldnaam voor een immigrant met een zuidelijk, mediterraan uiterlijk die, waarin Moustaki zichzelf omschrijft, eruitziet als een &#8220;zwerver&#8221; en een &#8220;schaapherder&#8221;. Serge Reggiani, voor wie hij het lied oorspronkelijk had geschreven, weigerde het uit te brengen.
